Foreign Minister Ebrard presents new avenues for labor mobility to the U.S. / @SRE_mx @m_ebrard >>>

#SRE.- During the morning press conference headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, reported on the migratory situation of Mexican nationals and Central Americans seeking to enter the United States.

The Chancellor pointed out that, since the beginning of this administration, President López Obrador stated «that paths must be opened, regular, legal, documented channels for people who decide or are interested in working in the United States or for reasons of family reunification […] and at the same time an investment must be made in the countries that have economic difficulties so that it is not a forced migration due to poverty or insecurity conditions».

In this regard, Secretary Ebrard recalled that within the framework of the 10th North American Leaders’ Summit, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the United States, for the first time in history, on labor mobility, «because this term means that it is accepted that labor mobility is legitimate, valid, and that it can be conducted through regular, safe and orderly channels,» he said. He also recognized President Biden for this disposition.

As a result of this agreement «around 885 thousand work permits and visas for migrants will be granted between 2022 and this year. In 2022, the number of H2A and H2B visas for Mexicans reached 360,656 visas, the highest number in the history of our country […] we expect this year to be even a little higher».
