#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The Strategy for the Promotion of Sports implemented by the Government of the Fourth Transformation has consolidated 896 spaces in the country for the benefit of more than 5 million people, informed the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), Román Meyer Falcón.

This initiative serves 65.7 percent of the population that prefers to exercise in public spaces as part of a healthy routine, he explained at a morning press conference.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that «it is very important what has been done in urban development: housing, seawalls, drainage, street paving, many public squares; all of this in the poorest areas, the most abandoned neighborhoods in the country, but great importance has also been given to sports facilities so that people, especially young people, have a place to do sports and we have made a lot of progress,» he said.

The head of Sedatu said that the practice of sports contributes to maintain a healthy life, encourages social inclusion, promotes education and increases community coexistence, which reduces social problems in the neighborhoods.
