#ISSSTE.- With successful neurosurgery, specialists from the Centro Médico Nacional (CMN) «20 de Noviembre» of the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) were able to remove an extensive brain abscess in a three-year-old girl from Querétaro, who has recovered satisfactorily and regained mobility on the left side of her body, which she had lost due to the injury.

This is an example of the commitment and dedication of the health professionals of the new Issste, who put their expertise, efficiency and human interest in saving the lives of the beneficiaries who need it, especially when it comes to children, said the general director, Pedro Zenteno Santaella.

The neurosurgeon assigned to the hospital and in charge of leading the operation, Cuauhtémoc Gil Ortiz-Mejía, informed that the patient’s mother, Professor Adela Martínez Trejo, reported that the girl began to show symptoms on March 29th of this year, when she was called from the nursery to pick her up because she had a fever, nausea, headache and vomiting, for which the initial suspicion and treatment was a gastrointestinal infection.

As the days went by, he added, the patient did not respond to treatment and her symptoms worsened with brain inflammation, so she was referred from her clinic to the General Hospital of Querétaro and later to the CMN «20 de Noviembre» for suspicion of malignant brain tumor, since a brain abscess is extremely rare at this age.
