Secretary Bárcena talks with senators on foreign policy issues / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>> >>>

#SRE.- Today, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena Ibarra held a meeting with senators members of the Political Coordination Board and representatives of the Foreign Relations Commissions of the Senate of the Republic, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the foreign policy agenda of the Government of Mexico.

In a cordial and friendly atmosphere with twenty senators of the Republic, Alicia Bárcena invited the Senate to work together with the Executive and reaffirm the fundamental role played by both as actors in Mexico’s international relations.

«Nothing of what we want to do will be possible without the support of you, the legislative branch. I believe very much in this dialogue between the Senate of the Republic, which undoubtedly has the role of guiding, supporting and accompanying Mexico’s foreign policy,» the Secretary emphasized.

«I see in you, the Senate, friends… And that is why I wanted one of my first activities to be with you. Our relationship will be very close, very close. I want you to feel that you can count on me, and that this Foreign Ministry is at the disposal of the Senate, that working with you will be extremely important. We have enormous challenges in these 15 months», she added.

Foreign Minister Bárcena highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy carried out by senators with their counterparts around the world, as it helps to generate ties of friendship and cooperation with other nations. She invited them to deepen their international work, and even to actively accompany her on international trips, such as to the United Nations.
