SICT, SC and INBAL in charge of safeguarding the artistic and cultural heritage of the SCOP Center / @jorgenunol @SCT_mx >>>

#SICT.- The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) and the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico through the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal) inform that, jointly, they are carrying out a series of preparatory works for the rescue and safeguarding of the murals and sculptural work that housed since 1954, the complex called «Centro SCOP».

In this sense, the bases of collaboration between the governmental agencies were subscribed, reiterating their commitment to guarantee the preservation, conservation, safeguarding and permanence of the artistic works of O’Gorman, Chávez Morado, Best, Gordillo, Zúñiga and Arenas Betancourt, among others; as well as to give follow-up and coordinated supervision so that the technical works comply with the specifications of the project.

The tasks in charge of SICT engineers, historians, architects and restorers from Inbal and the specialized companies that participate as executors and supervisors of the work, will follow a rigorous work plan and due communication with the various federal or local authorities involved with all normative management in the scope of their competencies in each phase.

The project to safeguard the artistic work contemplates from the outset: the comprehensive rescue, removal and specialized recovery, deterioration analysis and restoration of mosaics, reliefs and sculpture of both originals and rescued pieces or replicas, after the serious and irreversible damage suffered by the 1985 and 2017 earthquakes.

To this end, both agencies initiated on June 30, 2023, the works of phase 1; that is, the specialized intervention for the rescue and liberation of the artistic heritage still housed in the exterior walls of buildings A, B and C of the SCOP Center.
