IMSS performed more than 469 thousand detections of hepatitis C during 2022: Zoé Robledo / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- The Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, informed that 469,581 rapid hepatitis C detection tests were applied during 2022, of which 2,150 patients were positive for the disease and 1,992 patients were assigned to medical treatment. Currently, 95 percent of those who have completed treatment have been cured.

Within the framework of World Hepatitis Day, the Director General of Social Security indicated that this disease is the fifth cause of primary attention at the Institute, although sometimes it is diagnosed when the patient presents complications such as cirrhosis or hepatic cancer.

He explained that there are vaccines to prevent hepatitis A and B; in the case of hepatitis C, Social Security and the health sector have effective and free treatments with which a radical improvement of the disease can be achieved, and even its cure.

«It is important to be aware of these detection campaigns, IMSS specialists say that there are several measures that can be taken to prevent infections: not to share objects of personal use that have contact with blood or body secretions, and if tattoos or piercings are performed, they should be done in places where it is certain that the material is sterile,» he said.

Zoé Robledo added that risky sexual practices should be avoided and in the event of recognizing exposure to any factor, go to the PrevenIMSS services of the Family Medicine Units (UMF) and request the rapid hepatitis C test.
