#ISSSTE.- Afore Pensionissste participated in the workshop «Sustainable Taxonomy of Mexico», given by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), in order to raise awareness and train employees of the Investment, Comprehensive Risk Management, and Finance and Administration Sub-Directorates on the main elements of this instrument and its potential for transforming investments.

Inaugurating the event, the head of the Insurance, Pensions and Social Security Unit of the SHCP, Héctor Santana Suárez, emphasized the need for the participation of all economic agents in the use of the taxonomy, in order to achieve the objectives of a sustainable economy. Likewise, he mentioned that its implementation is a gradual work, so it will be necessary that actors such as Pensionissste support in the first phases.

Edgar Díaz Garcilazo, Pensionissste’s executive director, reiterated the interest and commitment of this afore to the development of a financial system whose objective is to reduce social gaps and transition to a green economy. He also pointed out that account holders’ money continues to be directed to investments that seek to maximize their long-term yield, at an adequate level of risk, in addition to incorporating into this duty the mobilization of resources that generate environmental, social and governance (ESG) benefits.

The sustainable taxonomy is a classification system that identifies activities, assets or investment projects with positive environmental and social impacts, based on the country’s state of technological development and productive capacities. It is also aligned with national environmental policy, and aims to support compliance with Mexico’s international commitments, such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) Agenda 2030.
