20 pre-Hispanic archaeological pieces returned from Belgium / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- The Mexican Ambassador to Belgium, Rogelio Granguillhome Morfín, received today, August 14, 2023, 20 archaeological pieces after they were declared by specialists of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) as cultural heritage of our nation. The objects come from cultures that originated in the Central High Plateau and were made during the Mesoamerican Classic period (100-650 A.D.).

The pieces were handed over by Louise Du Moulin Maria, a Belgian citizen who pointed out that her family had possession of these goods for more than seven decades; however, thanks to the #MiPatrimonioNoSeVende campaign, she became aware that such objects «belong to Mexico», so she decided to return them.

For his part, Ambassador Granguillhome thanked Miss Du Moulin and her family for their willingness to return to our nation what belongs to it as part of its historical and cultural heritage, within the framework of the good relations between Mexico and Belgium.

The Embassy of Mexico in Belgium will continue to contribute to the priority task of restoring Mexico’s historical heritage and will continue to participate decisively in the campaign #MiPatrimonioNoSeVende, in order to prevent the commercialization of archaeological and historical property, and promote its recovery and return to its place of origin.

In the near future, the pieces will be repatriated to Mexico and, subsequently, the Legal Consultancy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will deliver the archaeological objects to the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through INAH, for their proper safekeeping, study, analysis and conservation.
