Persian crafting technique shared at Inbal School of Handicrafts / @alefrausto @cultura_mx >>>

#Cultura.- Doctor in Art, Samira Arab, originally from the Islamic Republic of Iran, shared details of the Jatam technique (wood inlay) while giving the lecture Iranian Inlay and its connection with the motifs of Mexican art, addressed to the community of the Cabinetmaking Workshop of the School of Crafts of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) and the General Subdirectorate of Artistic Education and Research (Sgeia).

During her presentation, Samira Arab, who is recognized in the handicraft field as a reference for her extensive knowledge and skill in the Persian technique of Jatam, taught at the National Museum of World Cultures, said that she has been appointed ambassador of art and its language.

Referring to the concept of Jatam, she commented that this is the name given to the technique that is difficult to overcome, in this case, as a method of decorating the surface of wood that is created by means of triangles or squares, forming prisms. «The first work of Inlay (inlay, for its Spanish translation) is in the Metropolitan Museum.

«The mosaic is a dialogue or image made with strokes of stones, glass or ceramics of regular or irregular shapes of different colors, held together with plaster or mortar to cover a surface. Wood, camel bone, brass alloys and aluminum can be used,» he described.
