#SECTUR.- At the opening of the Destino Futuro Forum, organized by Travesías magazine, which in this edition focused on sustainable tourism, the Minister of Tourism (SECTUR) stated that tourism is dynamic and in direct contact with its surroundings, so the risk of environmental deterioration, overexploitation of natural resources, degradation, loss of biodiversity, transculturation of the population, among others, is always latent.

He indicated that, for this reason, it has become imperative to generate a new tourism development model that satisfies the demands of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.

Torruco Marqués said that, in this sense, the Secretariat in charge of the Tourism Sector Program 2020-2024, established as one of its four priority objectives: To promote sustainable tourism in the national territory; so that the Mexico Reborn Sustainable strategy was implemented, which consists of the creation of tourist circuits of social welfare and harmony with nature, where people and communities linked to tourism activity are integrated, without affecting their biocultural process.

He pointed out that among the relevant projects that have yielded successful results is Kuxatur, which means «living tourism», and whose objective is the conservation of biodiversity in coastal ecosystems, through the design and implementation of policies and innovative models of sustainable tourism.

He specified that this initiative works in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, with financing of 7.2 million dollars from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and is applied in the La Paz-Sierra La Laguna corridor and Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur; the Huatulco-Chacahua corridor, in Oaxaca; and the Maya Ka’an region, in Quintana Roo.
