115 thousand passengers used «El Insurgente» during its first weekend in service: Nuño Lara / @jorgenunol @SCT_mx >>>

#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, stated that after the first section of the «El Insurgente» train came into service this weekend, an accumulated influx of 115,000 passengers were registered, who were able to see the benefits and technology of this rail transportation system.

At a press conference held by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace, the head of the SICT recalled that on September 15 the first stage of the train’s operation began, consisting of 4 stations: Zinacantepec, Toluca Centro, Metepec, Lerma, as well as depots and the Control Center.

This initial phase has an operating schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday; and the trip will be free until September 30, but after that date and until June 2024 the service will cost 15 pesos.

Likewise, at the National Palace, Nuño Lara said that «El Insurgente» will consist of 58 kilometers (km) in a route that will be completed in 39 minutes from Zinacantepec station to Observatorio. The project will have an investment of 97,000 million pesos (mdp).

He highlighted that the signatory of the project, the National Bank of Public Works and Services (BANOBRAS) has carried out an efficient operation, so that last Saturday the train registered an affluence of 51,700 passengers, and the whole weekend an accumulated of 115,000 users.
