#IMSS.- It is possible to maintain a healthy heart by adopting healthy eating habits, practicing physical exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking and alcohol consumption, as well as visiting the Family Medicine Units of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) to detect any cardiac risk disease.

On World Heart Day, which is commemorated today, September 29, the Director General of Social Security, Zoé Robledo, pointed out that the Institute also has its triple A, focused on combating the more than 220 deaths per year due to cardiovascular diseases that occur in the country. Of this figure, 80 percent can be prevented if the risks are addressed at an early stage.

He detailed the triple A of the IMSS: the first, healthy eating: consume less processed food and less sugary drinks; the second, physical activity: progressive walking, swimming, yoga, dancing, «whatever we like»; and the third, do it in time.

He expressed that in the presence of symptoms such as loss of consciousness, cold sweats, chest pain, tingling in the arms, dizziness and nausea, it is necessary to contact Código Infarto (800-9363-473) or through the IMSS Digital application, in order to receive specialized attention.

For her part, Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez, coordinator of Health Innovation at the Medical Services Department, said that it is therefore important to maintain these practices from childhood, and to reinforce and maintain them during adolescence and adulthood.

She explained that when people can perform their daily tasks, such as physical activity, jogging and running, without reporting any symptoms, it can be concluded that this organ is functioning correctly. When the heart rate accelerates, it reaches between 100 or 120 beats per minute, but during sleep it can drop to 50 beats.
