#ISSSTE.- Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent oncological pathology in the world and in Mexico; the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) is committed to improving its care and has expanded its infrastructure with Breast Cancer Detection Centers (CDyDCM) and the Breast Reconstruction Program in several hospitals in the country, for the benefit of affected women, informed the Director General, Pedro Zenteno Santaella.

He said that in 2022 this disease accounted for 23.7 percent of all the cases treated at the institution, according to the Financial and Actuarial Report (IFA) 2023 of the organization https://goo.su/E70lbu.

On World Breast Cancer Day, which is being commemorated on October 19, the Director General affirmed that in order to promote early detection and increase the chances of a cure, CDyDCMs have been opened in the following Regional Hospitals: «Presidente Benito Juárez» in Oaxaca; «Elvia Carrillo Puerto» in Mérida; Puebla, Veracruz, Morelia, as well as «Gral. Ignacio Zaragoza», «1° de Octubre», «Lic. Adolfo López Mateos» and the General Hospital (HG) «Tacuba» in Mexico City. Also in the HG of Tlaxcala and Clínica Hospital «Mazatlán», among others.

These centers have study rooms with a relaxing atmosphere to offer warmer attention to the beneficiaries, and state-of-the-art matographs capable of locating hidden millimeter lesions in the breast tissue to locate the cancer in its earliest stages, emphasized Pedro Zenteno.

«We have not only focused on detecting and curing cancer; with the purpose of integrally rehabilitating patients affected by this disease we strengthened the Breast Reconstruction Program.»
