The first Mexico-Canada Labor Mobility Forum was successfully held in Michoacán / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>

#SRE.- On October 31, the first Mexico-Canada Labor Mobility Forum was held at Casa Michoacán in the city of Morelia, organized by the North American Unit and the Directorate General of Political Coordination of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, in conjunction with the Canadian Embassy in Mexico and the Government of the State of Michoacán through the Secretariat of Migrants.

The event was attended by the Governor of the State, Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla; the Canadian Ambassador to Mexico, Graeme C. Clark; the Secretary of Migrants of Michoacan, Maria Teresa Mora Covarrubias; the head of the National Employment Service Unit, Donaciano Dominguez Espinosa, and the Director General of Political and Institutional Affairs for North America of the SRE, Cristina Planter Riebeling, among other government representatives.

This forum is being held as part of the agreements of the High Level Dialogue on the Mobility of People from Mexico-Canada (DANMov) and the Working Group to Strengthen the Travel Information Campaign to Canada of said mechanism, which foresee holding forums in various states to promote orderly, safe and regular migration between the two countries.

In this first edition, the following points related to labor migration of Mexicans to Canada were addressed: 1) trends in migration flows and unsubstantiated asylum requests; 2) bilateral actions to counteract the risks and increase in irregular migration; 3) dissemination of regular and safe ways to migrate to Canada, and 4) promotion of the labor rights of Mexicans abroad.

Likewise, the evolution of migration in the state of Michoacán was discussed, as well as the causes of labor migration of Mexicans to Canada. Likewise, information was provided on the sectors with the greatest demand for labor in that country and its labor mobility programs. In addition, information was provided on the labor rights of migrants, travel documents to enter Canada and possible scams in the immigration process.
