#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, kicked off the expansion of the Uruapan-Lázaro Cárdenas Uruapan-Nueva Italia highway, a 65 kilometer (km) section, which will have an investment of 6,463 million pesos (mdp) and will benefit 679,000 inhabitants.

The head of the SICT said that the works are part of a second stage of the highway. He explained that in June of this year they began in Pátzcuaro-Uruapan, and Pátzcuaro-Zirahuén (23 km), are already finished, so the Uruapan-Nueva Italia route will provide greater security in its transit and in the development of the port of Lázaro Cárdenas in charge of the Secretary of the Navy.

In the company of the Governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, and the Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Jesús Felipe Verdugo López, Secretary Nuño Lara said that, although the road section is scheduled to be inaugurated in June 2027, they will try to make it happen as soon as possible, which will benefit the population.

Upon completion of the Uruapan-Nueva Italia section of the Uruapan-Lázaro Cárdenas Highway, it will enable users to reduce travel time from 50 to 30 minutes, while facilitating the development of economic and social activity in the region.

It will increase the cargo movement capacity of local products to different distribution points, as well as the level of service, and will improve connectivity with four states: Guanajuato, Querétaro, Jalisco and the State of Mexico, in addition to Mexico City.
