In the early hours of Monday, Mexican mission Proyecto Colmena will travel to the Moon: Mexican Space Agency / @SICTmx >>>

#SICT.- The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), through the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) informs that, during the early hours of Monday, January 8, the Project Hive mission with five Mexican micro-robots will be taking off on the Peregrine Lunar Lander spacecraft, which will leave Cape Canaveral, Florida, bound for the Moon.

The Peregrine spacecraft will be lifted off the Earth’s surface by the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan-Centaur rocket, from which ULA schedules the Peregrine spacecraft to detach in approximately 50 minutes, after which Peregrine will continue its journey to the Moon on its own. The ULA rocket system consists of: 1. solid fuel boosters; 2. liquid fuel first stage; 3. liquid fuel second stage; 4. the Peregrine spacecraft itself, carrying Colmena.

ULA reported that the goal is to launch in the early hours of January 8 at 1:18 a.m. (Mexico City time), although the launch could occur at any time within a window up to 4:03 a.m. (Mexico City time). This is ULA’s longest launch window for its four possible scheduled flight opportunities this week, which includes backup dates on Jan. 9, 10 and 11.

From Cape Canaveral, launch weather officer Melody Lovin indicated that the forecast for a January 8 launch promises positive weather conditions, with an 85% chance of good weather.
