IMSS promotes the importance of patients knowing the Emergency Department Triage classification of care / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) is promoting the dissemination of the Triage Model in the Emergency Departments of its medical units, with the aim of making this system known to the beneficiaries, where conditions are divided by color, prioritizing emergencies and the medical response based on severity.

The Director of Medical Benefits of the IMSS, Dr. Celida Duque Molina, stated that work is being done to make this classification more specific and clearer for patients admitted to the Emergency Room, where the first contact is a medical staff that evaluates the patient in 5 minutes, takes vital signs and, based on their clinical condition, assigns them a color of severity.

«Particularly so that our beneficiaries are aware of this classification in less technical terms, which allows them to evaluate these waiting times and weigh up the so-called true emergencies, which are life-threatening,» he emphasized.

For his part, the coordinator of Medical Programs of the Coordination of Second Level Units, Dr. Jesús Sosa Live, indicated that the classification of patients is based on five colors: red, for cases requiring resuscitation and advanced management for resuscitation.

He added that the orange color is assigned to people who manifest a life-threatening pathology; the yellow color is for patients who have a pathology that requires immediate attention in less than 30 minutes.

Green is a minor emergency, whose patients can be attended at the Family Medicine Unit in a maximum time of 120 minutes; and blue represents a non-urgent situation, where the service is provided to the patient in a time that does not exceed 180 minutes.
