Campeche strengthens tourism activity with first Magic Neighborhood, 3 Magical Towns and Green Angels / @TorrucoTurismo @SECTUR_mx >>>

#SECTUR.- Accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Campeche, Mauricio Arceo Piña, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) presented the state governor with the designation of Barrio Mágico to San Román, the first place in the state to have this distinction, which is granted to emblematic sites that combine various elements that make them unique and reflect the «spirit» of a city.

He indicated that the San Roman neighborhood is the seventeenth Magical Neighborhood in the Mexican Republic to receive this designation; and it is a very representative place of the city of Campeche, which, after more than 400 years of its foundation, today preserves traces of its viceregal past.

He highlighted its traditional houses and main park, as well as its old 16th century church, which houses one of the most representative figures of the Catholic faith in the state and in the Yucatan Peninsula, the Black Christ, which attracts numerous parishioners every year.

He pointed out that the designation as a Magical Neighborhood gives it an added value to attract more national and foreign tourists, causing a greater stay and economic benefit for its inhabitants, in compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation.

Torruco Marqués also delivered the Magical Town designation to Candelaria, and the updates to the Magical Towns of Isla Aguada and Palizada. The mayors of Candelaria, Francisco Javier Farías Bailón; of Carmen, Pablo Gutiérrez Lazarus; and of Palizada, Angela del Carmen Cámara Damas, received the distinction.
