#ISSSTE.- The General Hospital (HG) of Querétaro of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste) donated corneas and musculoskeletal tissue from two male donors, one aged 57 and the other 63, and a 73-year-old woman, informed the director of the medical unit, Salim Kuri Ayala, from February 5 to 7.

So far in 2024, the institute has performed 36 procedures of this type in the country, of which 34 have been of tissues and two multi-organs; the latter, obtained at the Regional Hospitals of Monterrey and Puebla, informed the national coordinator of Donation, Diego Osvaldo Guzmán Cárdenas.

Within the framework of World Organ and Tissue Transplant Day, which is commemorated today, he highlighted that all this work to save and improve lives is the result of the social generosity and altruism of these people and their families, as well as the commitment and professionalism of the health personnel in charge of the committees responsible for donation and transplants in the country’s medical units.

The head of the Organ and Tissue Donation Coordination of the HG of Queretaro, Juan Arreola Luna, emphasized that the three donations obtained will help to improve the health and quality of life of more than 300 people.

It is important to inform that a donation of musculoskeletal tissue and skin can benefit more than 100 people. By donating corneas, patients on the waiting list will be able to recover their vision. If the heart, liver and kidneys are obtained, the lives of seven to nine human beings can be saved, he pointed out.
