Adolfo López Mateos”, part of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), has marked a significant milestone in Mexican public healthcare, celebrating its 55th anniversary with a powerful endorsement of its public service ethos. General Director, Martí Batres Guadarrama, used the ceremony to declare the “superiority of public services”, highlighting the hospital’s strengthened offering, which now includes a state-of-the-art Robotic Surgery Centre, a new dermatological phototherapy unit, and critical electrical infrastructure upgrades in the main building’s basement.

Mr. Batres Guadarrama stressed that the hospital’s daily, high-level function reaffirms the State’s moral obligation to continuously improve its medical institutions, stating: “This hospital, with its routine operation and its highest-level capacity, demonstrates the superiority of public provision, and the best must always be public because it is for everyone.” He also issued a crucial mandate to the staff, urging them to capitalise on the enhanced infrastructure to expand services and ensure a more dignified patient experience: «It is necessary to have more medical units, more operating theatres, more doctors and nurses… to have more consultations, more surgeries, and to accompany this elevation of numbers with something very important, which is dignified treatment.”

During the commemorative event, held in the hospital’s “Dr. Fernando Prieto López” auditorium, Mr. Batres presented 24 formal commendations to nursing, administrative, and resident personnel who had served as brigade members, offering vital support to residents affected by the intense rainfall recorded in October. Adding to the celebratory tone, the ISSSTE Medical Director, Gustavo Reyes Terán, emphasised that the new facilities are instruments designed “to elevate the precision, productivity, and safety” of care, asserting that the Institute is “breaking myths” by ensuring cutting-edge technology is available to all beneficiaries.

The Hospital Regional is positioned by leadership as a tangible example that “excellence cannot be a privilege”, ensuring that advanced capabilities like robotic surgery are a fundamental social right and not an exclusive benefit for the citizens of Mexico.
