Mexico launches the Wellbeing Pharmacies as a flagship effort to secure timely access to essential medicines / @Claudiashein @GobiernoMX
#HealthForEveryHome #AccessibleMedicinesNow —– #FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- A monumental stride in public healthcare has been championed by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, with the introduction of the «Farmacias del Bienestar» (Wellbeing Pharmacies), a highly anticipated and significant initiative. This novel scheme for the distribution and access to essential medicines promises to be a crucial «economic and medical lifeline» for thousands of vulnerable older adults and persons with disabilities enrolled in the existing Salud Casa por Casa (Health Home by Home) programme. The inaugural and consequential phase commences immediately, establishing a robust framework across 500 Health Units belonging to the IMSS and IMSS Bienestar networks, including vital satellite modules within the Tiendas del Bienestar (Wellbeing Stores) across the State of Mexico.
This streamlined logistic model is specifically designed to eliminate «protracted waiting periods» and significantly enhance the daily lives of beneficiaries, as articulated by the President during her morning press briefing, «Las mañaneras del pueblo»: “Through Salud Casa por Casa, you will have your prescriptions and will be able to permanently receive the prescription for your medication”. To ensure this vital efficiency, dedicated delivery modules – now collectively known as the Wellbeing Pharmacies – are being strategically set up «outside» the main healthcare centres and at the Wellbeing Stores.
The Secretaría de Bienestar (Ministry of Wellbeing) has played an instrumental role, with its head, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, reporting that 8,818,488 home consultations were completed by 1 December under the related Salud Casa por Casa programme. Furthermore, Undersecretary Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes confirmed the pharmacies will dispense medications for chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, initially stocking 22 types that meet roughly 80 per cent of the needs of the older adult demographic.
The programme, set for national completion by March 2026, represents a definitive act of «social justice,» celebrated by the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, and symbolised by the first treatment delivery to Ms Romelia Espinosa, marking the dawn of a new healthcare entitlement.
