Mexico promotes labor mobility and human rights at the OAS / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- Mexico is participating in the 54th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), «Integration and Security for the Sustainable Development of the Region,» which is being held in Asunción, Paraguay, from June 26 to 28.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers and representatives of the member countries will analyze the inter-American agenda, the regional situation and determine the actions, initiatives and programs that the organization will develop during the 2024-2025 period.

The Mexican delegation is headed by the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Joel Hernández García; and integrated by the Permanent Representative of Mexico to the OAS, Luz Elena Baños Rivas; and the Ambassador of Mexico to Paraguay, Juan Manuel Nungaray Valadez, who will reaffirm the commitment of our country to the four pillars of the Organization: human rights, democracy, security and integral development, with the objective of building a more just, secure and prosperous continent.

During his participation, Undersecretary Hernández will highlight Mexico’s priorities in the area of migration, emphasizing the implementation of the Mexican Model of Human Mobility, as well as actions to address illicit arms trafficking in the region and the inclusion and respect for human rights, particularly of the most vulnerable people.

Mexico’s active participation and leadership on these issues is reflected in the resolutions presented and co-sponsored by our country at the OAS, with the purpose of generating positive change in the region.

The agenda of the meeting includes the election of members of organs, agencies and entities of the Organization, among them, three members of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, in which Mexico presented the candidacy of Dr. Leticia Bonifaz Alfonzo.
