#IMSS.- At the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) during 2023, 36 million 784 thousand 715 Family Medicine Consultations were provided at the First Level of care to people aged 60 and over, which reflects the institutional effort and commitment to improve the health of the elderly.
Within the framework of the celebration of Grandmother’s and Grandfather’s Day, the IMSS reported that the improvement of the health of this population sector is provided through various actions so that they have comprehensive, timely care and under a focus on prevention and treatment of diseases, mainly chronic-degenerative.
The head of the Area of Promotion and Education in the Life Cycle, Dr. Carlos Benito Armenta Hernández, recalled the commitment of Social Security to the health and well-being of older adults, inviting them to actively participate in medical and social initiatives and programs in order to take advantage of the services available from the Institute.
He also called on the population to bring older people who are part of their family or social circle to one of the various activities that Social Security has for this important age group.
He stressed the importance of this group attending the Nursing Modules of the different Medical Units of the First Level of care, with the objective of having them perform the PrevenIMSS Checkup.
Dr. Armenta Hernández recalled that within the Mexican health system, older people are considered from 60 years of age.
He indicated that in addition to the actions of the PrevenIMSS Checkup by nurses, as well as the medical care of Family Medicine and the Nutrition consultation, the Social Work staff and Health Promoters at the First Level, develop the Educational Strategies for Health Promotion.
