#ISSSTE.- In order to raise public awareness of the importance of recognizing the warning signs of cerebrovascular attacks, the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) is carrying out the 4th National Walk “Ante un ataque cerebrovascular, DALE!”, which will be held throughout the country.
This is a fundamental action to boost the prevention of medical complications, in line with the strategy of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the CEO of the institute, Martí Batres Guadarrama, in order to strengthen preventive initiatives that promote health and enable the identification of risk factors that could threaten the well-being of the Mexican population.
The deputy coordinator of the ECOS for Wellbeing program, José Carlos Hernández Jiménez, explained that strokes are among the five leading causes of death in the world. In Mexico, many of these deaths are attributable to late attention, a situation that could be avoided if the population were informed about the warning signs.
According to the specialist, strokes occur when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, which prevents this organ from receiving the oxygen and nutrients necessary for its proper functioning. This obstruction can cause damage to brain tissue, leading to the death of neuronal cells (necrosis) if circulation is not restored quickly. Without timely attention, it can also prove fatal.
He pointed out that, in the last edition, Issste carried out a total of 110 walks nationwide, in which more than 135,000 people participated. He clarified that here the traditional concept of competition is broken, since it is not a race, but an interactive and educational activity.
