The Government of the State of Mexico strengthens the professionalization of public service personnel in the care of women in situations of violence >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- Within the framework of the Program for the Advancement, Well-being and Equality of Women (PROABIM), the Secretariat for Women (SeMujeres) presented awards to 89 public servants from the Gender Equality and Eradication of Violence Units of the various Secretariats, Auxiliary and Autonomous Bodies in the State of Mexico, who concluded the diploma courses on public policies with a gender perspective and strengthening of management capacities and management skills. Mónica Chávez Durán, head of SeMujeres, stated that this strategy strengthens and consolidates the management skills of public servants, providing them with methodological and practical tools in terms of gender perspective, in order to create and implement inclusive public policies with a focus on equality.

“Women often do not approach the institutions, because they do not know the proper channel to do so, but above all because they fear being revictimized by the authorities,” said Chávez Durán.She added that, according to the National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships, in the State of Mexico in 2021, the culture of reporting by women was very low in cases of intimate partner violence.

In addition, she said that work is being done with the institutions responsible for addressing violence against women through two strategic aspects that promote the professionalization of public servants throughout the public administration. The first is the training and professionalization of people who provide services for the prevention and attention to gender violence, where they will be given tools to orient, attend and detect the needs to safeguard the physical and emotional integrity of women in situations of violence, find risk factors in situations of violence, abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents.

In addition to attending in an informed manner to search for missing and unaccounted for persons, identifying aspects that make the unaccounted for person unique, and investigating and searching in the field, using information gathering techniques, reaching a number of approximately 550 public servants. The second is the State Strategic Program for the Gender Violence Alert against Women, where 841 public servants from the state and the 11 municipalities with a gender violence alert have been certified.

Chávez Durán affirmed that, with these tools, now those who have received their diplomas and certifications will be able to provide specialized and comprehensive services with quality and warmth to women who face violence, thus reinforcing actions to ensure that they have the necessary skills to effectively and respectfully address complex issues such as violence, disappearance and violation of the rights of women, adolescents and girls.
