#SEP.- In the framework of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the General Director of Curriculum Development of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Xóchitl Leticia Moreno Fernández, assured that Basic Education promotes the inclusion of children, adolescents and young people with disabilities, in order to encourage their participation and autonomy in activities inside and outside the schools.
He informed that there are currently 6,775 special education centers throughout the country that provide attention to 295,000 students, of which 251,000 live with some kind of disability or disorder, while the rest have outstanding attitudes.
Inaugurating the 3rd Special Education Congress: Together and Together for Diversity 2024, with the representation of the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, he added that of the registered centers, 4,888 are Preschool Education Support Services Units (USAEP) or Special Education and Inclusive Education Units (UDEEI); 1,663 are Multiple Attention Centers (CAM), and the rest correspond to other educational services offered by the states, such as CAPEP, CRIE, UOP or UABH.
He pointed out that the congress, which is being held virtually, is “an analysis exercise to improve our educational practice and to successfully develop the skills, tastes and expectations of our students”.
He asked the population to recognize the work of special education services, through which teachers provide educational attention to students with disabilities. They provide reasonable accommodations and specific support. They collaborate in the creation of the life project that will mark the strategies to be followed to obtain the maximum development of the potential of these students.
