#SECTUR.- Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, presented the national tourism plan to members of the American Society of Mexico during the 85th Annual General Assembly.
She explained that the Mexican Government’s tourism policy is focused on Community Tourism, which includes all the members of the productive chain, from the private sector to the resident communities of Indigenous Peoples and Afro-descendants, with a sustainable guiding principle of preservation, restoration and regeneration of the biocultural heritage, which equitably redistributes the economic revenue and infrastructure development generated by tourism.
He highlighted the role of tourism as a factor of collaboration between Mexico and the United States; it is “one of the most important bridges that unites people and countries,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of the United States as the main market for tourists to Mexico, since, according to information from the Immigration Policy-Registration and Identity of Persons Unit of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), in the first 11 months of 2024, 12.2 million U.S. residents arrived in Mexico by air, 10.5 percent more than in 2023, with a revenue of 14,186 million dollars, 13.9 percent more than in the same period last year.
He pointed out that there are currently 18 commercial airlines with regular operations between both countries, which registered 133,762 flights in 2024.
In this regard, the main Mexican airports for U.S. arrivals were Cancun, with 39 percent; Los Cabos, with 15 percent; and Mexico City International Airport, with 12 percent. Likewise, the main airports of origin from the United States to Mexico were Dallas, Los Angeles, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Dallas, O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, and Atlanta.
