INAH invites the public to its cultural walks in February / @cultura_mx >>>

#Cultura.- The broadest expressions of Mexico’s heritage, from archaeological sites and museums, as well as historical centers and archives, former convents, plazas, markets, craft workshops and natural areas, among others, can be known in greater depth in the Cultural Walks of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

With 60 years of experience, this outreach initiative has more than 100 destinations scheduled annually and specialized and trained staff to serve diverse audiences.

For February 2025, a varied agenda is offered, which will begin on Saturday 1, with ‘Cencalli. El maíz, semilla de vida’ (Corn, seed of life), in order to tour the space that in colonial times housed a wheat mill and today, within the Chapultepec Project: Nature and Culture of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, is a museum that disseminates the food knowledge of our country.

On Sunday, Candlemas Day, those who take part in the “Niño Dios: Traditions are Dressed” walk will walk through the neighborhood of La Merced, in the Historic Center of Mexico City, famous for the many places where, every year, the sculptures representing the infant Jesus Christ are dressed and decorated with care, prior to their presentation in churches.

Another pedestrian activity that will take place in the first square of the capital will be on Friday, February 7. Los murales de la SEP’ will allow a unique access to the Ex Convento y Templo de la Encarnación, a building that, in the second decade of the 20th century, was transformed into the headquarters of the Secretaría de Educación Pública and intervened for that purpose by famous artists of that time: Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jean Charlot and Carlos Mérida, among others.
