SEP and the Government of the State of Mexico sign collaboration agreement on literacy training / @Edomex >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Ministry of Public Education (SEP), through the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA), and the Government of the State of Mexico, signed a collaboration agreement to teach 150 thousand Mexicans to read and write by 2025, and to declare the State of Mexico an illiteracy-free territory.

During the ceremony and upon signing this agreement as a witness of honor, together with the governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo affirmed that sharing the power of the written word is a responsibility of all of us as a society, because learning to read and write allows people to become aware of their place in the world and assume their role in history.

“The written language allows us to capture our reality and then observe it objectively with awareness and take action to transform. Literacy is one of the most effective ways to cultivate and demonstrate the capacity for analytical and critical thinking; to make sense of the world around us and inspire our actions,” he said.
Delgado Carrillo mentioned that literacy is the basis of education, identity and cultural diversity, because it allows us to better understand the other, to understand what makes us different; to feel empathy, compassion and solidarity.

The head of SEP recalled that more than 100 years ago, José Vasconcelos formed cultural missions to make Mexicans literate, since only one out of four inhabitants knew how to read and write.

He pointed out that, in the second floor of the Fourth Transformation led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, that political will was taken up again and as part of the construction of a more just and inclusive society, young people and adults are supported in learning to read and write, settling the social debt owed to historically marginalized sectors.

“We know that literacy is a gateway to improving the quality of life, accessing the wealth of human knowledge and contributing to social inclusion,” he emphasized.

Finally, the head of the SEP recalled the creation of a new assignment model for Higher Secondary Education, promoted by the federal president, which eliminates the Comipems exam that, for years, determined the future of young people, stigmatized the educational offer of this educational level, and negatively influenced the lives of students.
