Lawsuits filed by Mexico in the U.S. against gun manufacturers and stores move forward / @SRE_mx >>>

The lawsuits filed in the United States against arms manufacturers and stores are moving forward and the Mexican Government has scenarios for any type of result, either in the Supreme Court of that country or before the court of Tucson, Arizona, assured today the legal consultant of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Arrocha.

During his participation in the International Forum on Arms Trafficking and Arms Diversion in Latin America organized by the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), he stressed that the legal team representing Mexico is ready to participate in the hearing to be held in the U.S. Supreme Court on March 4, as part of the lawsuit filed by the Mexican government against arms manufacturers in a federal court in Boston, Massachusetts.

Both lawsuits are strategic litigation and are the spearhead of a process that may allow for much broader legal strategies in the future, he said.

Regarding the litigation being pursued in the Tucson, Arizona court against five gun stores, he said that it is advancing favorably for Mexico with a new stage in the gathering of evidence.

“The district judge hearing this case has already initiated a new stage which, in the United States, is known as discovery, which is basically the gathering of evidence to get to the bottom of the case, and we are already in this stage of gathering evidence,” he said.

The legal consultant explained that the lawsuits filed by the Mexican Government seek to obtain greater controls on the sale of weapons in the United States to reduce or prevent the flow of illicit weapons to our country, as well as to contribute to a change in the narrative among the U.S. population.
