#Tecámac, #EstadoDeMéxico. – The municipal president, Rosi Wong Romero, created the Transitory Commission for Animal Welfare, which will be responsible for establishing actions to both prevent and deal with the consequences of abandonment, uncontrolled reproduction and animal abuse.
In his proposal, which was approved in a Town Council session, he states that this body will strengthen the institutional framework and public policies in this area, through the design of regulatory and operational strategies to ensure conditions of dignified and responsible treatment of animals in this territory.
It states that the municipality of Tecámac is no stranger to the situation of street animals, which represents a challenge for public health, safety for citizens and for the ecological environment, and points out that this circumstance requires effective, cross-cutting and sustained measures on the part of the municipal authorities.
In this sense, and among many other actions, in the last six years various sterilisation campaigns and adoption programmes have been carried out, and it is therefore essential to strengthen the monitoring and observation of various actions, as well as to guarantee municipal and citizen participation in the supervision of compliance with the relevant regulations.

It states that within the framework of this government’s commitment to the protection of living beings and in accordance with the principle of institutional co-responsibility, it proposes the creation of a Temporary Animal Welfare Commission to cooperate with the operational areas of the City Council.
Among other tasks, the Commission will promote the development of technical protocols to guide actions for the protection, vaccination, stable adoption and control of dogs and cats, in strict compliance with applicable legislation.
It will also propose building supervision schemes and collaboration agreements with federal and state institutions, as well as the conclusion of agreements with legally registered animal protection associations, with the aim of broadening the scope, efficiency and legitimacy of public policies in this area, among other aspects.
This proposal responds to an institutional vision, aimed at building a better animal environment and making Tecámac a reference point for animal welfare, he added.
