Special 301 Report of the Office of the United States Trade Representative – USTR (2025) / @SE_mx >>>

#Economy.- The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) publishes the annual Special 301 Report on the state of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights globally. In this year’s edition, the USTR placed Mexico on a list of priority countries to monitor, also including Argentina and Chile, within the Latin American region.

In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) state the following:

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration is committed to protecting the intellectual property rights of both the national industry and its trading partners.
This commitment can be seen in the implementation of various phases of Operation Cleanup, undertaken by various federal government agencies in coordination with local authorities, against merchandise illegally introduced into the country or that infringes intellectual property rights. This commitment is also demonstrated by recent legislative and public policy actions taken by our country. Such efforts against piracy and smuggling, included within Operation Cleanup, are acknowledged in the USTR report itself.
The Ministry of Economy maintains an open and collaborative dialogue with the USTR to address intellectual property issues; most of the observations made in the report released today are already being resolved, as listed below:
Mexico carried out significant legislative reforms, with amendments to its Federal Copyright Law, as well as the enactment of the Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property and a draft reform to it, mandated by President Sheinbaum in point fifteen of Plan Mexico.
The respective regulations are currently being reviewed by the Legal Counsel of the Federal Executive Branch and are soon to be published.
The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation upheld the constitutionality of the Federal Copyright Law.
