#Irapuato, #Gto.- Promoting a culture of peace, seeking to build a safe and prosperous Irapuato, is the goal of the members of the Municipal Commission for the Social Prevention of Violence and Crime.
Through this commission, made up of public officials and headed by Mayor Lorena Alfaro, civic values are promoted, encouraging citizen participation to work together with society and government to combat the legitimization of violence and crime.
During the first regular session of this committee, Gerardo Barroso Rangel, City Councilor and President of the Public Safety, Government, and Mobility Commission, called on those present to actively work to encourage good actions among the new generations to distance them from the bad examples that fuel violence and crime in the municipality.
«What do we have to do now with the generations that will follow? We’re talking about the generations in 15 to 20 years, to be able to find a profound solution for a Mexico, for the Guanajuato, for the Irapuato we want to have again, an Irapuato at peace and tranquility. But we have to focus on that, on the long term,» he emphasized.
Shayda Razo, Regional Prevention Coordinator of the Secretariat of Security and Peace of the State of Guanajuato, asked those present to join in the promotion of outstanding citizens in the sports, cultural, and academic fields so that young people can learn about their stories, find in them an inspiration, and find a role model to follow, free from violence and crime.
«One of the objectives is to raise awareness that violence in any context is not good; that our children and youth in the state and municipality need other tools, not just negative idols, but rather looking for healthy living models,» she emphasized.
As part of the training, attendees addressed topics related to advocacy, such as popular corridos, viral images found on social media, as well as ways to identify themes that promote violence and crime and strategies to counteract them.
