#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Government of the State of Mexico and students from the San Felipe del Progreso Higher Technological Institute (TESSFP) installed solar panels in rural communities in this municipality, allowing families who had never had access to electricity to now have lighting and energy for their daily activities.
In this way, the Government of Professor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, through the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTI), headed by Miguel Ángel Hernández Espejel, promotes student participation in projects that generate a positive impact in their communities, as established by the principles of the New Mexican School.
This initiative was made possible thanks to the Coordination Agreement between the TESSFP and the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (SMAyDS), through the State Institute of Energy and Climate Change (IEECC), which provided the equipment, materials, and technical training necessary for the students to install photovoltaic systems in four spaces.
In total, these systems will provide electricity to 30 homes, six cabins, a water well, and a community space in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.
IEECC engineers trained eight TESSFP students to locate, install, connect, and operate the autonomous systems that capture solar energy, convert it into electricity, and store it in a battery, allowing the beneficiaries to use lamps and other basic devices, such as household appliances and cell phones.
Among the main objectives of this project is for students to face real-life challenges, strengthen their professional training, apply their knowledge, and gain field experience. It also seeks to help them understand the positive impact their profession has on the community by improving the quality of life of those living in remote areas without electricity.
With The Power to Serve, SECTI reaffirms the commitment of TESSFP faculty and students to innovation and technology, to put them at the service of society and improve people’s quality of life.
