#SRE.-As part of Mexico’s global positioning efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and Netflix signed an agreement to coordinate actions to disseminate, through Mexican representations abroad, audiovisual productions that promote our country’s culture, arts, scenery, landscapes, and tourism to global audiences.
The starting point for this new collaboration between the SRE and Netflix is the film Pedro Páramo (2024) by Mexican filmmaker Rodrigo Prieto. This marks the beginning of the film’s international promotional campaign, which is linked to the dissemination of novelist Juan Rulfo’s legacy.
Starting today, Mexican representations abroad have the necessary permits to screen the film at their venues. As part of this public diplomacy campaign, Mexican cultural institutes in Washington, D.C., Paris, and Los Angeles will present an original exhibition of the costumes designed by designer Anna Terrazas for the film, using artisanal techniques evoking Rulfo’s Comala.
Likewise, Mexican embassies and consulates will promote reading, as part of the seventieth anniversary of the publication of the eponymous novel written by the universal Mexican Juan Rulfo. His literary works have been translated into more than 50 languages.
This alliance between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Netflix represents an example of the collaboration between the public, private, and social sectors to highlight Mexico’s cultural richness and the creative contributions of Mexicans abroad.
Mexico is one of the world’s leading destinations for audiovisual productions. The agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Netflix opens the door to greater synergies between the public, private, and social sectors to internationally promote the cultural richness and creative contributions of the multiple elements that make up the film industry.
Following the signing of this agreement, the film was screened in the presence of its director.
