#EstadoDeMéxico.- To ensure the safety of, prevent, and address gender-based violence among girls, adolescents, and women in the State of Mexico, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez launched the «We Move Safely» campaign and presented the Protocol for Addressing Sexual Harassment on Public Transportation to protect and assist those who suffer this type of assault.
«You gave me the honor of becoming the first female Governor of the State of Mexico, and I understood the trust you placed in me as something much greater than a position. I took it as a commitment, the greatest I’ve ever had in my life, to stand by those who need it most, the most vulnerable,» said Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez.
Accompanied by Citlalli Hernández Mora, Secretary of Women of the Federal Government, the state governor explained that additional preventative measures are being taken, such as assigning special seats for women and limiting access to persons in a state of aggression. This protocol will be applied not only in public transportation but also in public places.
During the event held at the UMB terminal of Mexibús Line 4 in the Los Héroes neighborhood of Tecámac, Teacher Delfina Gómez Álvarez announced the details of this program.
«If a woman is a victim of harassment, she can go to the dispatcher, call 911, or ask for support from the people around her. The dispatcher is obligated to stop the vehicle in a safe place, inform the control center, and record the aggressor’s information. And the authorities, coordinated through the C5 (Center for the Protection of the National Police), mobilize quickly to assist the victim and ensure she can access justice,» stated Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez.
She also noted that women are also given special attention at the meetings of the Coordinating Roundtable for Peacebuilding. She affirmed that the coordinated work of the three levels of government has led to a reduction in femicides and domestic violence by eight percent each, and the corruption of minors by 39 percent.
“Today, this government works every day to restore hope to millions of women in the State of Mexico, empowering their voices. We listen to them, we make them part of the solutions, and we will not stop. We will continue working to build a State of Mexico where everyone, absolutely everyone, can move around safely,” stated Professor Delfina Gómez Álvarez.
