Participation of Marcelo Ebrard during the Signing of the Collaboration Agreement of the Mining Education Committee Mexico 2025 / @m_ebrard @SE_mx >>>
#SecretaryOf Economy, #México. – Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon (MEC): Thank you, thank you very much for the presence of all of you, governors, dear friends, senators, deputies, deputies, of course rectors, leaders of the associations that make up the mining family, the Chamber, Pedro, thank you very much for the invitation.
Well, plain and simple, here we have a photograph of the Mexican mining community, and I am very pleased to be with you today on the occasion of the signing of this agreement, the signing of this agreement, I would say, is like a flag for many things that are going to happen, some of which have already been mentioned here.
What is going to happen, well, first let us think about what is obvious, we are entering a new stage in the world economy, with many geopolitical contents that we did not have, let us say in 1989, a few years ago, to put a date arbitrarily, 2018, 2019, there was no geopolitical rivalry, there was a superpower, an agreement regarding free trade, and the institutions that emerged from the Second World War: International Monetary Fund, World Bank, the exchange system, untouched, there was even a boom of optimism, I would say, in those years.
Well, today we are in different circumstances, at a different time in the world, where this is no longer the case, now there is a greater geopolitical rivalry, present in everything, and it is going to be more and more present.
So, if you review Plan Mexico, which is our navigation chart for these new times we are living in, it clearly states that Mexico has to increase its national production, protect its energy and food self-sufficiency, and the basis of the economy, which are minerals. In other words, we cannot assume that we are going to get all the minerals that our industry needs easily in a world with such a level of geopolitical tension. Let us realize that this is another time, someone may say, well, I would like something else, well, that’s fine, but that’s the world we live in. And our obligation as authorities, and this is what our President has emphasized to us, is to be prepared, not to wait for, not to be reactive, but to be proactive, proactive, to prevent, to see where or what we have to do so that our country may come out ahead.
