At the International Summit for the Prevention of Fentanyl Use, Mexico reaffirms its commitment to addiction prevention

In the framework of the First International Summit for the Prevention of the Consumption of Fentanyl and other Synthetic Drugs, the Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, who attended on behalf of the President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Mexico to place prevention as a national priority.

«We have an inescapable responsibility to generate sustained, intersectoral and evidence-based prevention strategies, and I stress the fact of prevention and also evidence-based. We must recognize that mental health and problematic substance use cannot be addressed from a punitive perspective,» he said.

During his speech, the head of the Ministry of Health emphasized that prevention is one of the key factors to face the multiple aspects of synthetic drug use, a complex problem that must be approached from different fronts.

She recalled that from the Mexican Government, the Chief of the Federal Executive has promoted the national and permanent preventive campaign «Stay away from drugs. Fentanyl kills you, which promotes collective awareness and social co-responsibility.
