#FederalGovernment#Mexico.- The Mexican government, through the Ministry of Culture, announced the eight semifinalists from the Central United States region of the binational contest «Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions.» This brings the 24 U.S. qualifiers to the semifinals starting August 17. Additionally, it was highlighted that from 2024 to 2025, the consumption of regional Mexican music with narratives that do not condone violence grew by 25 percent, placing it in second place in terms of global streams.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the «Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions» contest is part of the «Attention to the Causes» axis of the National Security Strategy, which seeks to ensure that young people do not see criminal groups as a life option or an identity.

“We will continue to ensure that no young person—’México Canta’ is part of this—chooses to become involved with a criminal group. We will put an end to the perception that ‘a criminal group is a life option, a choice of identity,’ because in reality, it is a choice of death. So, we are working on this every day,” she emphasized.

She added that the Mexican government is working throughout the country to benefit youth, for example, by strengthening the upper secondary education system, creating 37,500 new spaces in high school, as well as implementing programs such as Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro (Young People Building the Future).

The Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, explained that the eight finalists from the Central United States region professionalized their projects at Studio 15, founded by Ricky Muñoz of the group Intocable, whom she highlighted as demonstrating that a successful career can be achieved with songs that do not condone violence.
