#MinistryofForeignAffairs#Mexico.-  After four days of work, the closing ceremony of the XVI Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean was held, bringing together more than a thousand women with the goal of forging a path to guarantee the human right to care in the region.

During her address as President of the Conference’s Board of Directors, the Secretary for Women, Citlalli Hernández Mora, submitted the Conference agreements, contained in the document entitled Commitment of Tlatelolco: A Decade of Action to Achieve Substantive Gender Equality and a Care Society, for the plenary’s approval.

The Commitment of Tlatelolco represents a new foundation for States’ obligations regarding caregiving; from now on, countries in the region must promote measures to overcome the sexual division of labor, incorporate the care dimension into national planning, and develop policies to ensure that the media incorporate references that highlight the value and co-responsibility of caregiving.

With the aim of highlighting the diversity of women’s experiences and identities, the Tlatelolco Commitment also included a change in the name of the Regional Conference, which, beginning with its 17th edition, will be called the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
