Edomex Launches Major Campaign to Combat Suicide Risk and Boost Mental Health / @delfinagomeza @Edomex

#EstadoDeMéxico, #México.- The Government of the State of Mexico, under the leadership of Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, is proactively tackling emotional health issues and suicide risk through the ongoing campaign, “Escucharte, Cuidarte y Acompañarte: Tu Vida Importa” (Listen, Care for, and Accompany You: Your Life Matters). This crucial initiative has successfully delivered extensive advice and training to over 298,000 students, teachers, and parents across 1,572 schools within the state. This demonstrates a deep commitment to timely intervention and support across the educational community.

The Secretary of Health, Macarena Montoya Olvera, noted that the campaign, adopted statewide in July, is focused on opening up communication channels with adolescents and young people to strengthen familial, scholastic, and communal support networks. These enhanced networks are essential for the timely identification of potential suicidal behaviour and providing crucial early help. The initiative also involves continuous specialist training for medical professionals, recognising their key role in accompanying individuals through difficult emotional moments with necessary empathy and respect.

Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, the state government proudly announced that it offers free, specialised services through the Instituto Mexiquense de Salud Mental y Adicciones (IMSAMA). IMSAMA employs dedicated teams of medical, psychology, and social work staff skilled in suicide prevention and the treatment of addiction to alcohol, tobacco, and other psychoactive substances. Interested parties are strongly encouraged to contact the service via the dedicated phone numbers 722-689-3202 and 722-689-3135, or through the email address salud.imsama@edomex.gob.mx.
