#ISSSTE, #Mexico.- The Director of the Institute for Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE), Martí Batres Guadarrama, provided a critical update on the agency’s response to the recent severe rainfall. Speaking at President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s «La Mañanera del Pueblo» conference, Batres Guadarrama confirmed that the institution is currently addressing damage across 29 medical units. These facilities, located in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro, were impacted by the heavy downpours between 6th and 9th October.
Providing a breakdown of the damage, the ISSSTE Director stated: «De estas 29 unidades: 15 ya se encuentran funcionando; 13 tienen daños menores.» He then detailed the most significant damage at the Álamo unit, which was «inundó completamente» and suffered «un daño total». He explained the floodwaters reached nearly two metres, severely damaging all internal equipment, though he praised the commitment of the staff who are continuing to serve the public outside the main unit after initial clean-up efforts.
Regarding the Churubusco Specialities Clinic in Mexico City, which experienced severe flooding from Friday’s rains, Martí Batres confirmed that services were fully restored this Monday. This rapid recovery was achieved thanks to intensive cleaning and dredging efforts carried out over the weekend, involving support from the Mexico City Government and dedicated ISSSTE cleaning staff. Furthermore, he reported that seven flood victims across the affected states required hospitalisation and were transferred for treatment to the Clínica Hospital (CH) in Huauchinango, Puebla, and the Hospital General (HG) in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
