#AlcaldíaBenitoJuárez, #México.- The administration of Mayor Luis Mendoza successfully hosted the «Tapatón y Trenzatón» (Bottle Cap and Hair Braid Drive) at the María Tereza Montoya Theatre, commemorating World Breast Cancer Awareness Day, in collaboration with the Banco de Tapitas A.C. and the Movimiento Rapunzel organisations. This event underscored the Mayor’s commitment to supporting those suffering from the disease, ensuring they are not overlooked within the local community’s health strategy.
Mayor Luis Mendoza strongly reiterated his pledge to stand by those affected by this illness, stating: «In the Benito Juárez Borough, you are not alone in the face of breast cancer, we have trained personnel, and support of all kinds for the families confronting it.» He urged the community to prioritise preventative measures, concluding: «Let us raise awareness and together prevent this disease.» The drive effectively promoted solidarity and empathy through the donation of hair and plastic caps, funding oncological wigs and treatments for patients.

The event featured various sensitisation and awareness-raising activities, including specialist conferences, informative talks, and a photographic gallery showcasing female survivors who shared their powerful stories of strength and hope. Furthermore, as part of the month’s commemorative schedule, the IV Symposium on the Fight Against Breast Cancer was held, where experts stressed the critical role of self-examination, prevention, and timely detection as fundamental tools to combat the condition.
The solidarity shown by participants was deeply moving, with donors sharing their motivations for contributing to the cause. Emiliano Hernández, a donor, shared a personal testimony: «A person in my family suffered from breast cancer and lost their hair; it inspired me to donate something she would have liked to have at that moment.» Another donor, Jaqueline Molina, expressed the collective spirit: «The joy of knowing my hair will reach people who need it is huge. Hair grows back, but empathy must also grow.»
