#CuautitlánIzcalli#StateOfMexico.- Mayor Daniel Serrano has officially launched the comprehensive rehabilitation works for the La Quebrada Central Park, honouring a significant and long-standing community demand. This vital project, which was repeatedly promised and subsequently neglected by previous administrations, is scheduled for completion this year, ensuring direct benefit for all residents. The Mayor confirmed that the scope of work was reached through consensus with local residents following an inspection to determine the most pressing needs, thereby restoring dignity to this formerly abandoned landmark.

Detailing the planned improvements, which will encompass an area of 5,250 square metres, Daniel Serrano announced the establishment of diverse, high-quality sports and recreational facilities. The comprehensive project includes the construction of new sports courts, a running track, an outdoor gym, and a designated palapas and social area. Additionally, spectator stands will be installed to allow residents to comfortably enjoy events, actively promoting both family integration and local sport.

The Head of Urban Development and Public Works, Verónica Italia Montero, elaborated that the rehabilitation scheme encompasses the creation of new recreational spaces specifically designed for senior citizens and dedicated leisure areas for children. Further works involve the landscaping of flowerbeds and footpaths, the ecological restoration of all existing flora in the area, and a significant upgrade to the running track for local athletes. These collective efforts aim to revitalise the area as a genuine social lung for the entire neighbourhood.

During the project’s commencement ceremony, which was also attended by First Councillor Luis Fernando Ugalde and Director of Participatory Democracy Luis Fernando Vázquez, Mayor Daniel Serrano issued a direct appeal to the community. He earnestly requested that, upon completion of the park, La Quebrada’s residents should actively help to preserve the site and, above all, «appropriate it«. This crucial sense of public ownership is deemed essential by the administration to ensure the long-term upkeep of the community space.

Finally, the Mayor emphasised unequivocally that the park is intended solely for the «enjoyment of the populace» and that his administration will not tolerate any misuse of the site by external entities. Daniel Serrano firmly stated that «we shall not permit any space to be used by organisations that displace the citizens of our municipality». Representing the beneficiaries, Mario Medina, a local sports promoter, expressed his gratitude to the Mayor for keeping his word and reversing La Quebrada’s historical neglect.
