In Edomex, Tlalnepantla Launches ‘Reciclatón’ to Spur Green Stewardship / @RacielPerezC_ @Gob_Tlalne >>
#Tlalnepantla, #StateOfMexico.- The Government of Tlalnepantla, led by President Raciel Pérez Cruz, has introduced the ‘Reciclatón’ as a public policy initiative focused on environmental stewardship and ensuring a better surrounding for future generations. This innovative scheme allows citizens to exchange household solid waste for plants or trees, actively contributing to the vital «greening of Our City.» By transforming refuse into natural life, the programme directly addresses pollution while fostering a sense of shared responsibility among the community.
In a timely and festive twist, this edition of the ‘Reciclatón’ coincides with the traditional Día de Muertos celebration, adding an element of fun to the environmental drive. Participants attending the exchange event in costume will receive a «sustainable sweet treat» (while stocks last), promoting the notion of giving «a fright to pollution» while responsibly recycling household waste. This creative incentive aims to maximise public engagement and encourage greater participation in the city’s green commitments.
The Directorate of Sustainability for Tlalnepantla confirmed the wide variety of materials accepted, ensuring a comprehensive approach to waste reduction. Acceptable items include plastics, paper, glass, PET, tinplate, cardboard, batteries, bottle caps, Tetra Pak, aluminium, good-condition used clothing, used vegetable oil, and small appliances. This broad list makes it easier for residents to clear out their homes while actively making «important improvements for the planet» through simple changes.

Mitzi Anda Rubalcava, the head of the Directorate, issued a direct appeal to residents, urging them to take part in the ‘Reciclatón’ and «do their bit» for this crucial environmental commitment. The official highlighted that the event aligns with the global call to action following the International Day against Climate Change on 24 October. That date served as a stark reminder of the global crisis and the «urgency of acting» at a local level to effect change.
Furthermore, Ms Anda Rubalcava praised the ongoing, concerted efforts of the Directorate, which consistently organises reforestation drives in municipal parks and green areas, particularly in the Sierra de Guadalupe. She acknowledged the invaluable participation of public servants, the private sector, and general citizens who attend these events to plant new saplings, ensuring this critical «lung of Tlalnepantla» remains in optimum health. Interested residents can attend the ‘Reciclatón’ on 31 October at the Municipal Palace esplanade between 9:00 and 13:00 to exchange their waste for a plant or tree.
