#Acapulco, #StateOfGuerrero, #Mexico – As part of the International La Nao Festival 2025, the Municipal Government of Acapulco promoted the conference “Las mujeres también llegaron a La Nao” (“Women also arrived at La Nao”), a significant event held at the historic Fuerte de San Diego, which highlighted the crucial participation of women in the cultural and social development of the city. This cultural activity underscores the authorities’ commitment to recognising and honouring women’s contributions to the port’s identity, a fundamental pillar in Mexico’s maritime and economic history.
The lecture, expertly delivered by historian Alejandra Cárdenas, focused on the importance of women’s roles throughout various historical processes and their undeniable contribution to Acapulco’s cultural identity. Throughout her presentation, she highlighted their presence and legacy in multiple stages of the port’s social development, affirming that their influence is as ancient and profound as the history of the Manila Galleon itself.
At the end of the enriching presentation, staff from the Municipal Institute for Women (Immujer) presented a well-deserved recognition to the speaker for her valuable contribution to the visibility of women’s participation in local history and culture. The Director-General of Immujer, Sandra Yolanda Rodríguez Zaragoza, emphasised that “women also arrived at La Nao” and stressed the need to maintain spaces that encourage reflection and understanding of women’s roles in society.
Through conferences such as this one, the Government of Acapulco reaffirms its commitment to substantive equality, empowerment, and the full participation of women in all spheres. This approach seeks to build a culture based on respect and equity, directly benefiting the entire community of Acapulco.
