In CDMX, Alcaldía Miguel Hidalgo Proposes Doubling Security Budget in a Decisive Move to Safeguard Residents

During the inauguration of the «Joint Crime Prevention Operation», Tabe argued that financial allocations must reflect a genuine commitment to public peace rather than remaining mere rhetoric. Flanked by leaders from neighbouring territories, the Mayor emphasised that doubling resources is essential to enhance surveillance through an increased deployment of officers and patrol units across the demarcation’s diverse residential neighbourhoods.

The initiative was launched alongside the Mayor of Cuajimalpa, Carlos Orvañanos, and the Municipal President of Huixquilucan, Romina Contreras. This collaborative effort represents a resolute strategy to fortify and consolidate the borders of these three jurisdictions for the fourth consecutive year. By synchronising their forces, the leaders aim to maintain an «oasis of security» in the western sector of the capital, ensuring that the festive season remains a period of tranquillity for all residents and visitors.

Romina Contreras echoed the urgent need for increased funding, specifically advocating for the reinstatement of the Fortaseg programme to bolster local police forces. She highlighted that modern policing requires a sophisticated and innovative infrastructure, including plate‑reading arches and advanced video surveillance systems. Such technological advancement is deemed vital for the continued protection of the citizenry, particularly as criminal tactics evolve in complexity and frequency within the metropolitan area.

Representing Cuajimalpa, Carlos Orvañanos noted that nearly 500 officers have been mobilised to safeguard the western zones until early January. This proactive deployment focuses on strategic and meticulous points to mitigate the risk of domestic burglaries whilst families are away on holiday. He maintained that such coordination is the only way to ensure that high‑value residential areas remain shielded from seasonal spikes in opportunistic criminal activity.

Mauricio Tabe reiterated that despite facing significant resource scarcity, opposition‑led districts continue to lead the city in safety rankings. He described the current legislative deliberations as an imperative opportunity for deputies to prove their commitment to the people’s welfare. «Our demand is for more resources, double the resources for security», he stated, insisting that effective governance is defined by tangible and verifiable results rather than political posturing.
