This trend holds true in the year-over-year comparison as well: in June 2025, the perception stood at 49.9%; a year later, it dropped to 45.5%, a reduction of 4.4 points.

Looking back, the shift is even more striking. In the final quarter of 2021, the perception of insecurity in the municipality was 75%. Today, at 45.5%, the cumulative drop is 29.5 points—the largest decrease since this metric was first recorded in Atizapán.

The most striking figure: between March and June of this year, the rate dropped by 10.8 percentage points, falling from 56.3% to 45.5%. This represents one of the sharpest declines for the quarter among the 91 urban areas monitored nationwide by INEGI, whereas the national perception of insecurity barely shifted, moving from 61.5% to 59.8%.

Lieutenant Commander Justino Bautista Osorio, the municipality’s Director of Public and Road Safety, attributed the result to the support the force has received from the municipal government—led by Pedro Rodríguez Villegas—and stated that the goal is to continue working with «discipline, professionalism, and close engagement with the community.»

The municipality’s security strategy includes strengthening the operational capacity of the Municipal Police, deploying more technology for crime prevention and enforcement, increasing preventive patrols, coordinating across all three levels of government, conducting intelligence work, fostering community engagement, and reclaiming public spaces.
