Mexico and Brazil strengthen diplomatic alliance with the VI Binational Commission in Brasilia / @SRE_mx >>>

(#MexicoBrazil2026 – #DiplomaticAlliance) *** #MinistryOfForeignAffairs, #Mexico.- In Brasilia, #RobertoVelascoÁlvarez, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, concluded a working visit to the #FederativeRepublicOfBrazil, reaffirming Mexico’s determination to strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation in strategic fields. Welcomed by #MauroVieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and received by President #LuizInácioLulaDaSilva, the visit underscored the significance of consolidating ties between the two largest economies in Latin America.

At the Palácio do Planalto, Velasco Álvarez conveyed the greetings of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and emphasised her commitment to deepening friendship, dialogue, and cooperation with Brazil. He noted that the bilateral relationship is experiencing one of its most promising stages, marked by trust and shared priorities.

The Mexican Foreign Minister also held substantive talks with Mauro Vieira, exchanging views on key issues of the bilateral agenda and regional challenges. Both ministers co-chaired the plenary session of the VI Mexico–Brazil Binational Commission, presenting results from five subcommittees covering political, economic, multilateral, educational, cultural, technical, and scientific cooperation, as well as outcomes from recent high-level meetings.

Recent official reports confirm that Mexico and Brazil have intensified collaboration in renewable energy, digital innovation, and cultural exchange programmes. In this context, Roberto Velasco Álvarez stressed that the partnership reflects common principles of sovereignty, social justice, and peaceful resolution of disputes, while Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed that Mexico views Brazil as a natural ally in building a more prosperous and equitable region.

The visit also included a lecture at the Instituto Rio Branco, Brazil’s prestigious diplomatic academy, where Velasco Álvarez outlined Mexico’s foreign policy towards Latin America. Later, he met with the Mexican community, accompanied by Ambassador Carlos García de Alba and consuls in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, announcing the launch of a virtual mental health service for nationals residing in Brazil.
