En Edomex, Cuautitlán Izcalli begins the process of establishing a sister-city relationship with Talcahuano, Chile / @daniel_ser @GobIzcalli >>>

(#TransformativePartnerships – #InternationalTies) *** #CuautitlánIzcalli, #StateOfMexico.- Two cities separated by thousands of kilometers could find common ground in their productive similarities, creating an opportunity to share knowledge and undertake joint projects. With this vision in mind, #DanielSerranoPalacios, Mayor of Cuautitlán #Izcalli, announced the start of efforts to formalize a sister-city agreement with #Talcahuano, a port city in the Biobío Region of #Chile. The initiative includes a cooperation agenda aimed at translating the relationship between both communities into economic, social, and environmental benefits.

The proposal is based on several characteristics shared by the two municipalities: their industrial activity, logistical importance, and the challenges posed by the growth of their urban areas. Within this framework, the exchange of experiences will cover education, business development, culture, civil protection, and water resource management. It also considers the possibility of drawing on Talcahuano’s expertise in emergency prevention and urban resilience to strengthen local planning and safety strategies.

This rapprochement does not arise in isolation; rather, it builds on a cultural relationship that has found opportunities for expression through activities organized in Cuautitlán Izcalli. Chile’s participation in the Izcallense Art, Cheese and Wine Festival, which attracted more than 71,000 visitors, preceded the Cultures of Friendship event, where 54 exhibitors from 39 countries showcase their traditions and products. During the inauguration, Alejandro Soto, First Secretary of the Embassy of Chile, recalled Mexico’s longstanding solidarity with the Chilean population forced into exile. For his part, Daniel Serrano expressed his gratitude for the support of Laura Beatriz Moreno Rodríguez, Mexico’s Ambassador to Chile, in promoting the sister-city agreement project.

The relationship between these two cities takes on particular significance in light of the challenges industrial cities face in terms of sustainability, infrastructure, and territorial development. Within the context of decentralized cooperation between Mexico and Chile, Cuautitlán Izcalli can expand its opportunities for international engagement through knowledge-sharing among local governments, while Talcahuano offers a valuable reference for learning about port operations, productive activities, and risk prevention strategies. The next step will be to move forward with the institutional procedures required to formally establish this collaboration.

The meeting between these two cities presents an opportunity that goes beyond diplomatic protocols: turning international exchange into a practical tool for improving the lives of their residents. As these efforts move forward, Cultures of Friendship will remain at Parque de las Esculturas until November 8, with an open invitation to discover other cultures through their flavors, handicrafts, and traditions.
